GRADE 2 WEEK 8 TERM 3

REMOTE LEARNING 2020

31st August 2020 – 7th September 2020

READ ALONG WITH MRS MENHENNET!

This is week 8 of Term 3 2020 and all my Grade 2  students are remote learning at home!

This week we are going to be doing some Visual Arts learning about PAPER WEAVING.

Last week I asked you to have a go at doing some PAPER WEAVING like this.

The blue and white WEAVING above was done by Shaurya from 2E and the brown and blue WEAVING, making excellent use of some magazine pages, was done by Siddharth 2D.

If you didn’t do your PAPER WEAVING last week you will need to go to the blog post for Grade 2 Week 7 for instructions.

Here is a story about weaving called ‘The Goat in the rug’ by Geraldine.

READ ALONG WITH MRS MENHENNET Part 2

Wow! Geraldine was the name of the goat and she told the wonderful story about her owner weaving a rug from her wool.

OVER UNDER OVER UNDER

Even though Glenmae was weaving a very big rug she was still going over and under with the wool just like you do when you are paper weaving.

OVER UNDER OVER UNDER

Paper weaving is a skill and you need to practice to improve your weaving skill.

OVER UNDER OVER UNDER

So this week I want you to have another go at paper weaving.

OVER UNDER OVER UNDER

BUT when you finish this week I want you to add something to your weaving to turn it into something else.

So you might turn it into a cow!

Or you might turn it into a crocodile!

Or you might turn it into a rocket!

Or you might turn it into a fancy quilt for a fancy bed!

Use your imagination and see what you can come up with!

And you might have some big paper bags at home that have been used to deliver shopping or take away to your house while you have been in lock down. The sides of a large paper bag are fantastic to weave through. You might like to try paper bag weaving instead.

I can’t wait to see what you come up with. I will create an assignment on Edmodo called Visual Arts week 8 that you can attach your finished week 8 weaving to.

And if you need to watch the videos from last week to remind you how to do paper weaving then just go back to the Grade 2 Week 7 blog post. You will find it in the Recent blog posts list in the side bar.

Have fun,

Mrs Menhennet

This is week 7 of Term 3 2020 and all my Grade 1  students are remote learning at home!

This week we are going to be doing some Visual Arts learning about PATTERN.

There are patterns everywhere around us.

There are patterns in the park.

There are patterns in the supermarket.

There are patterns on a farm.

There are patterns at the market.

I am absolutely positive there are patterns in your house too!

Perhaps on the floor?

Or in the bathroom?

Hmm! I want you to go for a walk around your house and see how many patterns you can find.

I will wait right here until you get back. Take as much time as you need. You might want to make a list.

Are you surprised at how many patterns you found around your house?

wow

Well now you have had a good look at the patterns around your house I want you to draw 4 of those patterns. Perhaps you can draw your favourite patterns you found around your house?

Take a piece of paper,

any piece of paper will do, and fold it into four spaces.

So, fold the paper in half. Press on the crease and then fold it in half again. Press on the crease. You should now have a piece of paper with four spaces in which to draw.

fold paper into four

You can use pencils,

or crayons,

or textas.

Some people call textas, markers.

Draw a different pattern in each of the 4 spaces on your paper. FILL THE SPACE with your pattern.

If your pattern has lots of detail try to put as much of it into your drawings as you can.

I will put a folder on Class Dojo for you to put your 4 fantastic patterns in.

Your Specialists Rich Task was due at the end of last week. If you need the instructions for the Rich Task you can find them on the Week 5 blog post. If you can’t find the Week 5 blog post there is a link to it in the sidebar of the blog in the section called Recent Blog Posts.

You also need to ensure you have submitted any other work for your  Specialist teachers that is evidence of your participation in remote learning, into the correct place.

If you enjoyed the looking for patterns or want to tell me anything else you can always post a comment at the end of this blog post.

If you don’t know how to post a comment I gave you instructions on how to do this on the week 5 blog post.

Now I want you to do a drawing showing me all the different sorts of lines you can draw.

You will need a piece of paper. Any sort of paper will do.

You can use pencils,

or crayons,

or textas.

At the end of the video the teacher asked you to do a drawing of all different lines after tracing your hand. You can do that or you can do the drawing she did at the start with all the different lines in rows.

You can choose how you do your drawing. Just make sure it is covered with all sorts of different lines. I also want you to  FILL UP THE SPACE on your paper with all the different lines that you draw.

I will put a folder on Class Dojo or Seesaw for you to put your Week 7 line drawing in.

GRADE PREP WEEK 5 TERM 3

REMOTE LEARNING 2020

10th August 2020 – 14th August 2020

READ ALONG WITH MRS MENHENNET!

Hello to all my Grade Prep students from Cambridge Primary School and whoever else might be reading this post.

This is week 5 of Term 3 2020 and all my Prep students are remote learning at home!

We are going to be doing a bit of Visual Arts learning around the topic of  self portraits!

In week 2 I asked you to draw a self portrait after watching a video.

In week 3 I asked you to draw a monochromatic self portrait after watching another video.

I have made folders on your grade’s Class Dojo  or Seesaw page for you to upload photos of your self portraits for Week 2 and Week 3. These photos are evidence that you have completed this work.

Here are the instructions for the Prep Specialists Rich Task.

If you have already completed your Specialists Rich Task you can skip this bit. On the audio file you can press the fast forward button.

This Rich Task will require some thinking and some organising. You will need time to complete it. So the Grade Prep Rich Task should be uploaded to your grade’s Class Dojo or Seesaw folder or portfolio by the end of WEEK 6!

For this Prep Specialists Rich Task, you will need to create a self portrait using “stuff” from around your house.

NO DRAWING!

Label your facial features in English and Italian.

You also need to create an animal face.

NO DRAWING!

Label the facial features of the animal in Italian and English.

Photograph your self portrait and your animal face using your device.

How will you complete this self portrait and animal face without drawing?

thinking emoji

What will you use to create this rich task?

You will be using things that you already have at home.

You have lots of CHOICE with how you create your self portrait and animal face.

Perhaps you will create your self portrait with counters or blocks

or  with lego

or with stuff from the kitchen cupboard

or cut pieces of paper

or paper plates

or wool or string

or fabric scraps

or playdoh and pasta

or stuff out of the laundry basket

or you could use some of these things

or all of these things

or something I haven’t even listed!

You could even use yourself as part of a huge self portrait like this person!

I am giving you lots and lots and lots of choice

in how you create your rich task

I am NOT telling you to go out and buy new art materials or things to use!

NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO!

You need to THINK about what you already have at HOME and HOW you can use it.

Now STOP!

Before you start running around your house like a crazy person collecting objects let’s think about this.

I do not want you touching any objects that don’t belong to you without permission.

I also want you to know and understand that all good artists clean up after themselves.

So, every single thing that you use in your rich task has to be put away properly and correctly after you have finished photographing it.

I cannot wait to see what you create!

Here is a story for you to enjoy. This is ‘The skin you live in’ by Michael Tyler.

READ ALONG WITH MRS MENHENNET!

Your VISUAL ARTS TASK FOR WEEK 5 is to write a comment on my blog about the story.

It is easy to write a comment on my blog. Don’t forget to use capital letters and full stops.

At the end of this blog post you will find a section titled,

LEAVE A COMMENT (or add a comment if nobody else has written one yet!)

Under that is a large box in which you type your comment. It looks like this. You can’t write in this one, Silly. You have to use the box at the bottom of this post.

After you have written your comment there is an anti spam box. The anti spam box is there to prove you are a real person not just a computer bot generating random comments. You need to copy the text from the anti spam box into the other box, just like in the photo below.

Then you type your name into the name box. Don’t forget to tell me which grade you are in.

In the next box you type your email address. If you don’t have an email address then you can ask someone from your family if you can use their email address.

Click on the little square at the bottom and you will get an email when I write the reply to your comment.

Finally click on the button that says POST COMMENT and you will have successfully written a comment.

Congratulations. You have just written and posted a comment on the Back Art Room Blog!

You have until the end of week 6 to upload your rich task,

Have fun,

Mrs Menhennet
