REMOTE LEARNING 2020

READ ALONG WITH MRS MENHENNET!

3rd August 2020 – 7th August 2020

Hello to all my Grade 1 students from Cambridge Primary School and whoever else might be reading this post.

This is week 4 of Term 3 2020 and all my Grade 1 students are remote learning at home!

We are going to be doing a bit of Visual Arts learning around the topic of  colour!

 

  •  To revise the order of the colours of the rainbow.

  • To read along with Mrs Menhennet as she reads the blog post aloud.

  • To introduce the instructions for the Specialists Rich Task.

  • I know the order of the colours in the rainbow.

  • I can play the audio function  on the blog post and read along with Mrs Menhennet.

  • I understand the instructions for the Specialist Rich Task.

    Let’s get started!

In Week 2 I asked you to draw a rainbow scene including the colours of the rainbow in order.

Last week (week 3) I asked you to create a rainbow from found objects.

 

I have made folders on your grade’s Class Dojo page for you to upload photos of your creations for Week 2 and Week 3. These photos are evidence that you have completed this work.

Here are the Instructions for the Specialists Rich Task.

This Rich Task will require some thinking and some organising. You will need lots of time to complete it. So the Grade 1 Rich Task should be uploaded to your grade’s ClassDojo portfolio by the end of WEEK 6!

 

For this Grade 1 Specialists Rich task, you will create a character called ROY.G.BIV.

ROY G BIV needs to have a body.

A part of  ROY.G.BIV’s body must be in RAINBOW ORDER like his name.

ROY.G.BIV’s body also needs to include at least one PATTERN

You need to label ROY.G.BIV’s body  in Italian and English.

What is  ROY.G.BIV’s  name in Italian?

Use digital technology to enhance your rich task. You might use Keynote or another creative app or other digital tools you know how to use. You might photograph or video your rich task as you create it.

What will you use to create this rich task?

In the past, in the art room, my students have created ROY G BIV like this.

This artwork involved  –

  • Drawing a large face for ROY G BIV

  • Using coloured strips of paper for his hair in ROY G BIV order

He has also been created like this.

This artwork involved  –

  • Drawing a LARGE head, neck and shoulders for ROY G BIV to fill the space on the paper. (If I wanted you to draw ROY G BIV really small I would tell you to create your rich task on a tiny post it note!) DRAW BIG!

  • Using coloured strips of paper for his hair in ROY G BIV order

  • painting different parts of his body in particular colours

  • cutting out his mouth and giving him a colourful tongue

In this time of remote learning, as artists,  we are not working in the art room.

In this time of remote learning, as artists, we all have to adapt  and change to creating at home.

So you won’t be able to create your ROY G BIV in exactly the same way that it has been made before.  And that really doesn’t matter. You will all be brilliantly creative artists at home!

So I am giving you  lots of CHOICE with how you create your ROY G BIV.

So perhaps you will draw with oil pastels or pencils or textas or crayons

or paint with a brush

or paint with  sponges

 

or print with objects

or paint with watered down food colouring

or use play doh

or make your own play doh or salt dough

Salt Dough Recipe

Ingredients

  • I cup salt
  • 2 cups plain flour
  • 1 cup hot water

Method

  1. Add salt and plain flour to a bowl gradually adding hot water. You might not need all the water!
  2. Mix together until a dough forms. Make sure it isn’t sticky.
  3. Leave your salt dough creations to air dry overnight. Then put your salt dough creations in the oven at 120 degrees Celsius for about 3 hours.
  4. When your salt dough creations are cool you can paint them. If you don’t have gloss paint and you want them to look shiny you can paint them with varnish when the paint is dry. If you don’t have any varnish just paint them with PVA glue. This will also make them nice and shiny.

and what about the found object rainbow from last week?

Perhaps your found object rainbow could be ROY G BIV’s body? You could add more objects to create a head, legs, arms, hands, feet and create a found object ROY G BIV?

Imagine if the artworks below were created in rainbow colours?

So you could use some of these things

or all of these things

or something I haven’t even listed!

I am giving you lots and lots and lots of choice

in how you create your rich task

I am NOT telling you to go out and buy new art materials to use!

NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO!

You need to THINK about what you already have at HOME and HOW you can use it.

 

Don’t forget to ask permission to pull stuff out of cupboards to use, or to make salt dough, or things like that.

· And, of course, tidy up after you have created!!!

I cannot wait to see your ROY G BIV rich task!

 

 So before you get started I think we should sing the ROY G BIV song together. I hope I can hear you!

GRADE 4 WEEK 4 REMOTE LEARNING CELESTIAL BODIES 2020

I can’t believe it is Week 4 of remote learning already!

We are going to be doing a bit of Visual Arts learning around the topic of CELESTIAL BODIES!

 

If you haven’t done the Week 3 activity yet please go back to Week 3 HERE.

Did you email your rough draft to me last week?

If you haven’t done that yet send it to me by email so I can put it onto the blog post. If you want to look at everybody else’s rough drafts, that is where they are, on last week’s blog post. Go to where it says HERE up above and it will take you there!

So by now you have looked at lots of images of celestial bodies and you have drawn 4 rough drafts as well.

This week I would like to see 2 ideas for your own celestial bodies art work. You are NOT making the final art work yet. You are just working on 2 different ideas. How can you produce an artwork that has more than one celestial body in it? How can you put them together? Or perhaps you just want to create one of the celestial bodies? What will you use?

Fold a piece of paper in half so you have two spaces.

Draw up 2 different ideas for your final art work. You can use a bit of colour this time but REMEMBER this is NOT your final piece. This is just working on two different ideas!

What art materials will you use? Are you going to draw your final piece?

Pencils? Textas? Crayons? Oil pastels? Watercolour pencils?

Do you have any paint?

What have you got at home that you can use?

Perhaps you want to try to make a 3D artwork?

Playdoh? Plasticine or modelling clay?

Or you could make salt dough? But ask your parents permission first!

And this week you are just coming up with 2 ideas, not actually doing the final piece. Do a drawing of your idea and write down what you think you might use to make it.  Do this TWICE!

And remember, it is OKAY to change your mind!

You need to think like an artist and not see changing your mind as making a mistake, because it is NOT. It is just that you came up with a better idea!

And that’s it!

Photograph your paper, with two different ideas on it, with your device, and email it to me.

SCHOOL NEWSLETTER ITEM No 10 2013

Firstly, the Principal’s write up about the Art Show in her column in the school newsletter!!!

Congratulations to Shelley Menhennet and Susie Blake for the amazing job they did on the Art Show and leading up to it. Having spent some time at the Art Show, I was overwhelmed by the response from the community who attended the Art Show! It was a magnificent celebration for our community; there was so much positive feedback, and events such as this build our school into a stronger and more united communi-ty. The Art Show was a fabulous reminder of what a very special place Cambridge Primary School is and what very special and amazing people we work with.

Art Room News
CAMBRIDGE PRIMARY SCHOOL ART SHOW

Thank you! Thank You! Thank You! Thank you to all the wonderful families and friends that came to the Cambridge Primary School Biennial Art Show 2013! It was a huge success. I spoke to parents I have known for years and years and parents who were brand new to the school and everything in between and it was terrific to hear your support and praise for the Visual Arts Program. I especially liked all the “Oohs,” and “Aahs,” as everyone came round the corner and entered into the huge space in the middle!It was fantastic to see all of your smiling faces and especially the faces of all your children, grinning PROUDLY from ear to ear. And the children of Cambridge Primary School should be proud of themselves as their art work looked magical, on display, for everyone to see.

As you have probably already heard the Art Show, as announced at assembly on Monday morning, was a SELL OUT! Ms Cascone bought up so much work for Ms Marchbank that there was way too much for her to decorate her house with, so she sent lots of pieces back to school, and they are SLOWLY being distributed back through the classrooms. If your child has not received their work back yet, don’t panic! Mrs Blake and I have only had around 2000 pieces of work to distribute so it has all taken a bit longer that we thought to send it all home!

Thank you to those families that did buy their child’s art work. We were astounded when the count was done on Monday morning that the art sales alone had raised almost $1000. Most of this money will be used to buy some wooden weaving looms of assorted sizes for the children to use in the Art rooms.

Thank you to the Junior School Councillors for helping out when Mrs Blake and I thought we might not get all the work up in time. Thank you to Ms Mason ( and cute Estelle) and Ms McKenzie who came in to school in their own time to help us with the set up. Thank you to Ms Cascone, Mrs Hardy and Charlotte who came in especially to help us with the pack up. And thank you to Amy and Sarah Blake and Sam, Sebastian and Georgia Menhennet who worked long hours, both at school and at home, to support their exhausted, cranky mothers. It’s hard work being a teacher’s kid some-times!!!

I am really looking forward to the next art show, in two years time, and all the parents who said they would like to help out next time and will join me on the 2015 Art Show Committee. It will be fantastic to have so many willing helpers on board. And this is a picture of what I lloked like when I got home from the Art Show on the Saturday afternoon!

Yes, it’s almost time for the Cambridge Primary School Art Show.

Can’t you tell by how frazzled I look!?!?!

It will be on Friday 25th of October , 3.30-6.00pm and Saturday the 26th of October 2013, 9.00am – 12.00pm, in the old gym.

This is a chance for the Cambridge Primary School community to see just how talented and creative these wonderful Cambridge Primary School students are, with over one thousand pieces of art work on display! And I heard a whisper that the Cambridge Primary School Fundraising Committee are going to be selling Devonshire teas for your enjoyment at the Art Show as well – yum yum! I somehow think I’ll need a cup of tea and a scone by the time the Art Show comes around! I look forward to seeing you all there!

Thank you to Olya and Georgia from 4M who were the Main Art room LUNCHTIME BOSSES during our lunchtime art sessions on Thursdays over the last couple of weeks of term. Thank you for the excellent fulfilment of your duties ladies, and it is very pleasant to see children from Prep to Grade 6 in the Art room together during these lunchtime sessions. If you would like a turn being the Main Art Room LUNCHTIME BOSS on Thursday lunchtimes just come and talk to Mrs Menhennet and I will add your name to the list!

 Thank you for all the donations that keep arriving at the main art room. We love to reuse and recycle! This morning I cut up a pile of paintings from when the grade 2 and 3 children were experimenting with sponges, and now in strips, they will be used by the grade 2 children in their weaving. They look stunning!

At the moment we need –

· CDs (scratched ,not working or just a terrible singer, it doesn’t really matter as we will be using them for WEAVING

· CLEAN plastic bottle TOPS and LIDS (I’m starting to save them for a big project for next year –ssshhh!)
